Mr. Matsuura has over 26 years of experience in the medical instrument
and device industry involving product development, engineering
management, design engineering and manufacturing. Mr. Matsuura
specializes in conceptual design of medical devices and systems and
intellectual property. Mr. Matsuura holds 26 US patents and
currently has 10 patents pending. He holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University.
At Flex Partners, Mr. Matsuura has conceptualized and developed several
products for the orthopedic, urology, and the cardiovascular markets,
including an annulotomy closure device, surgical tools, device for the
attenuation of pressure waves in the body, and devices for bone graft
harvesting. He has consulted on projects such as urinary
incontinence, Trans Myocardial Revascularization, Immune Modulation
Therapy, implantable defibrillators, anchoring devices for
cardiovascular transducers, and a variety of products utilizing
bio-absorbable materials. He has extensive experience in minimally
invasive surgery, optics, and anatomic visualization. He has
developed or consulted on such diverse products as intravessical
infusion devices, cryogenic ablation devices, enhanced ultrasonic
imaging, IV infusion devices, vascular diagnostic equipment, endoscopic
products, fluid delivery devices, infrared thermometry and heart valve
components
Prior to Flex Partners, Mr. Matsuura founded Dave Matsuura &
Associates (DMA), which provided design services to medical device and
manufacturing firms as well as startup services to entrepreneurs.
Prior to that Mr. Matsuura held the following positions: cofounder and
Director of Engineering at Situs (UROS) Corp, cofounder and Vice
President of Product development for METAMED Inc., Principal Engineer
and Design Manager for Intramed Laboratories (now Edwards Life
Sciences), Senior Engineer and Technical Team Leader at IVAC
Corporation (now Alaris Medical Systems), as well as engineering
positions at General Dynamics and Carbomedics.
